a day with levi
We haven't been huge fans of the extreme heat and dying crops this summer. But on the bright side, it means that Joel won't be very busy this fall...at least not as busy as he normally is. Usually this is harvest time around here. In fact, I don't think Joel has ever had most of Labor Day off. So, it felt very weird to have Joel come home after feeding cattle yesterday morning and pack up to go spend the day as a family.
We decided to take advantage of the day off and cool weather {yes, it is finally cooler in Kansas this week!} and took Levi to the zoo.
He has been to the zoo one other time with Grammy, but this is the first time we have taken him. He spent most of the time with his nose pressed up against the glass or trying to find the animals with his daddy.
He made it very clear that he would rather not ride in his stroller or have his picture taken. Stinker. He loved walking running from one place to the next though. Thank goodness his dad was there because I could hardly keep up with them even with my fastest waddle!
I love this picture with his little reflection...standing on his tip toes trying to peek at the penguins.
We went to the farm area to feed the animals. Levi wasn't sure about the sheep attacking him when they realized he had food. He opened his hand and kept his eyes closed the whole time.
When the sheep backed off a little he got braver and tried to feed them sand instead.
It was such a fun day spent with my boys. The zoo totally wore me out. We ate lunch with some of my family, went home so Joel could feed cattle again, squeezed in a quick nap, and met Joel's family for dinner. I am so thankful for this "extra" time we have to spend with Levi doing a few special things before Baby Brother arrives.

its so crazy how much levi has grown over the past few months. what a cutie!
Is that the Sedgwick County Zoo? We grew up visiting it, if so! The staff there named a baby zebra after my sister when she did a report on the zoo's zebras for our third grade class!! Enjoy your days with Levi! Can't wait to hear about baby brother's arrival! We just had a baby boy last Wednesday after two girls and it has been so much fun to bring home some blue at last!
i say this every time, BUT levi is scrumptious! such a little man. eee!
We ended up at the zoo, too! They had out the three new baby flamingos. So cute!
we went to the zoo on Monday too. The penguins were so active! I think they liked this cooler weather too!
Oh how fun! I'm so glad it is cooling off up there!
We saw you at the zoo, but wasn't sure if I should say hi or not. One of those "I know you but you don't really know me" kinda moments!
Precious pictures! You can tell his Daddy is so good with him!!
Adorable pictures! Thank you for sharing your special day at the zoo. :-)

God Bless you in you delivery!
I don't comment often but always read your blog !! Levie is still the cutest boy :) But the reason that I am commenting right now is that I had a dream that you gave birth to your new baby and you named him Logan .Maybe it's because I am from NH and you came to maine this summer and flew through Logan airport lol I don't know why but I thought I would share . :)
I love the "closed eyes, open hand" picture with the sheep! Our youngest also loudly protests the stroller - he'd rather be pushing it. ;) I've decided making a harness for him might save our sanity next time we venture to the zoo.
(and had to share...the word verification for this comment reads "zoochi"!)
I haven't commented in FOR.E.VER. Bad blog reader!! I have been reading though, and watching your family grow, both physically and metaphorically has been such a joy! What beautiful babies Joel and yourself make, and what a beautiful family God has blessed you with. Thank you for continuing to share your journey.
Can't wait to see pictures of baby brother when he comes.

On Sunday, in his Sunday School classroom I squated down to talk to Levi. "Levi, are you going to have a baby at your house?" He just lit up! Big eyes and a big nod. "Baby!"
He is excited!!
Baby blanket.....in the new Ikea catalog (just showed up on my doorstep today) they have a new baby blanket. The TORVA blanket. Very boyish with red, blue, green. 33 1/2 x 45 1/2 for $14.99.....gotta love IKEA!!
He's such a gorgeous little man!!! Love the last photo of you two...just beautiful! Glad you had good ole family fun!
i love the story of him closing his eyes when the goats were eating. so silly!
I wanted to take a minute and thank you for the referral of your BLOG designer, Danielle. Based on your recommendation I used her and am loving how my new "home" has turned out!
