pillows
I was looking around my living room yesterday thinking I was ready to make some new pillows. Maybe change things up a little for the fall?? That may never happen because, you know, we have a baby due around here pretty soon. You never know though...these sleepless nights might result in some new pillows. It is not like I have anything else to do!!!
I remembered that I never even showed you the pillows I made in the Spring. So, before I change them again...here they are.
I was inspired by these patchwork pillows. I didn't follow their tutorial exactly. Basically, I laid my strips on top of each other (front side facing front side), sewed the raw edges of my strips together until all the strips were attached, ironed the seams, and then top stitched them. I made an envelope back so that I could take the pillow out easily...because I like to be able to change things up!
I have a great tutorial that I printed off from Tiny Decor Blog several years ago for easy envelope pillow covers. It really is so easy and my favorite way to make pillows. Anyone can do it! When I went to link the tutorial I couldn't find it anymore. Maybe I'll do my own tutorial sometime...or you can just google envelope pillow cover and I'm sure you will find tons of tutorials out there.
This pillow I cut circles and sewed them on top of each other before sewing it onto the pillow. I was originally going to just sew the fabric circles together, but ended up having to use iron-on adhesive to keep the fabric from bunching.
Most of the fabric is from fabric.com. The linen is from Joanns. The red pillow with the pom poms is made by Megan. It is one of my favorites.
So, those are the pillows in my living room right now. The empty wall used to have huge shelves on it, but the bottom shelf was just about at head level for little kids. After a few injuries we decided they needed to come down. It has been empty ever since. It definitely needs something. Maybe three big pictures of my kiddos or some sort of gallery wall?? Someday I'll hang something there.
I am still waiting to hear from the winner of the online SnapShop course. Stacy, please email me by tomorrow or I will need to randomly pick another winner!! I don't want you to miss out!

I'd say a nice big green plant would look good in that blank spot!
Hi!
What if you move the turquoise mirror to the empty wall? or the white dresser even?? Of course, since I can't see the whole room, perhaps these are both bad ideas?
Whatever you come up with will be great!
Awesome pillows! See, this is like a mini-tour of one room of your house! Maybe it would be easy to do snippets of each room instead of a daunting whole-house tour! I LOVE your decorating style and would LOVE to see more! Sad you are having sleepless nights - isn't it so hard to get a full breath with a baby belly? I felt like I was going to hyperventilate just trying to breath deeply! I also remember having to get up a hundred times to pee each night - ugh!!! Guess it's God's way of preparing you for those sleepless nights!
i am going to have to borrow that circle pillow idea... love it!
I'm secretly hoping you will have to pick another winner and it will be me!!! Oops, did I say that outloud?
The pillows are cute! I love the red theme going on - what are you thinking for fall?
You are so talented! And I love your living room and the idea of a gallery wall. =)
Love the room, especially LOVE the wall color. Can you share?! Thanks!
Awe! I just LOVE your style... I'm a complete stranger that follows your blog because your family is just SO sweet and beautiful. I wish you the best with your new addition!
PS... I own a sewing machine and am addicted to Etsy. I also just joined Pinterest and need to figure out how to use it. I just may have to try your pillows if I can find a tutorial. I need all the help I can get. Ha!!!
Best of wishes to you and your family :)
i love those pillows! the circle pillow is too cute :)
I love your style. that looks like such a comfy room!
love the pillows! ummm...major correction to your post though...."anyone can do it!!" Riiiiiiiiiiight. Let's not forget your friend in Colorado. She most certainly can NOT make an envelope pillow case. seriously. I don't even know how to thread the sewing machine I got...a year ago. With all that spare time you have in the middle of the night maybe you should be doing video tutorials for me. hahaha.Oh, and for that blank wall...I will send you a 16x20 of my beautiful face...that should fill it up nicely :) love you, my super creative, hugely talented, pillow making friend :)
I'm dying to know how you keep your white chairs/couch so white with a little one?! I'd love to have white (or very light), but it's way scarry to me with a 20 month old and another due in October!
I love these pillows! The turquoise mirror... where did you get it? Is it from Ikea and painted?
Very cute pillows, I love them! Thanks for the great ideas! : )
LOVE your style and your house.
My question is how in the world do you keep your couch and WHITE chairs clean with a toddler? We need new couches soon but I am afraid to buy a lighter color due to dirty fingers!
hey! love your blog- and your living room! would you mind sharing where your rug is from? i'm looking for one...that won't break the bank! thanks!
can I just say how much I adore your living room? It is so bright, and fabulous....and the pillows...fantastic...you had me at the first picture though...I am addicted to fabric.....
Hey! It's Stacy! I sent you a e-mail and i'm not sure if you got it. my e-mail stacyaj01@yahoo.com
So excited!!! Hope to hear from you soon!
I am in love with your living room! Where did you get your couch???
BTW, I would love to see a pillow tutorial sometime!
Love your pillows. I'm wondering if your winner Stacy is on the East Coast...seeing as there are so many power outages around here from Hurricane Irene maybe she hasn't had access to the internet.
Wow those are some awesome pillows!
Your pillows are adorable! I love how bright they are!
Make the pillow covers now before having your baby! Two little boys will make you exhausted! Trust me...I know!
A gallery wall is so perfect for that space! There are awesome ones on pinterest!
I love your LR and the pillows, Jess - you are so talented! My husband thinks throw pillows are "taking up sitting space" on the couch - ha ha! Typical man response!
Your living room looks lovely! Soothing....
So I have a HUGE blankwall. and I just made a plan... now I have to collect everything.
3 pics of my precious babies...9one each.
a walldecal that states"count your blessings" and the #'s 1, 2, and 3 behind/beside each picture. 1 for Caden, 2 for Rigg and 3 for Ryder...
happy wall filling!

your house is just the sweetest.
it looks like a place of love and rest.
and i love your M. :)
I love making the envelope style pillows, so super easy! You are right about the fact that it makes them easier to switch out.
I love the circle pillow and the pillows with the different strips of fabric. I need to make some new pillows for my living room so I am going to try these, I'm so excited!
I have to say.... I think that living room of yours looks so crispy and happy and cheery and I just love it! We have a lot of dark/warm colors in ours.... but now I'm loving yours! :) My hubby might have a fit if I keep coming up with projects to do and take away my blog-reading priveledges!
Wow. You have such white and clean seating! I am amazed and not a little bit jealous. :) I'm pretty sure if anyone looked closely at my sofa, they'd find way more than they bargained for! As for needing something, I think those oversized canvas prints would be GREAT on that wall...and it's not something a child can hurt themselves on. You could put all three of your sweet babies up there!
I found this cute idea and thought about you putting it on your empty wall :)
