peace in our madness

This Is Our God
A refuge for the poor
A shelter from the storm
This is our God
And He will wipe away your tears
And return your wasted years
This is our God
Oh, this is our God
Oh, this is our God
A Father to the orphan
A healer to the broken
This is our God
And He brings peace to our madness
And comfort in our sadness
This is our God
Oh, this is our God
Oh, this is our God
We are so thankful that God brings peace to our madness because that is what today felt like. We have been playing music for Cora in her room and this is one song that has meant a lot to me through this journey. Just when we think we have gotten through our worst day there is a new challenge to face. We woke up and went to check on Cora. She had a good night and we were so thankful she was stable. I was back in her room talking to her and the doctor came by to tell me that she needed to have surgery. The fluid had increased around her heart since last night. The doctor told me that they needed to do the surgery sometime this morning.
Down the hall from Cora was a fourteen year old boy named Tony. He had also recently been diagnosed with cancer and was here receiving chemo treatments. We had gotten to know his family a little and checked in on each other to see how things were going. Tony went in for the exact same surgery as Cora this morning and didn't make it through. My emotions were so confused. I felt so sad for this family. I knew exactly what they had been going through and what I would feel like if that had been Cora. I was also scared to death. We were about to send Cora to the operating room for the same surgery. How was I supposed to trust God through this? We had to trust that Cora was in God's hands. Praise God that Cora made it through her surgery. Please keep Tony's family in your prayers. We are so sad for them.
Cora is back in her PICU room and doing good. The surgery seemed to really help. Cora's heart rate has gone down and her oxygen level has gone up since them. She has been pretty stable this evening. Her blood gas levels did go crazy a little while ago, but she seems to be doing ok now. We are excited for getting through this "baby step", but the doctor told us that there probably will be more bumps ahead. Please keep praying!

Praises:
-Cora made it through her surgery!
-Improved oxygen levels
-Lower heart rate
-Getting through another day
-The support of our family and friends (and strangers!)
-Prayer warriors
Prayer Requests:
-Cora's lungs would start functioning on their own
-The fluid in Cora's body would decrease
-Cora's blood gas levels would remain normal
-The chemo would be working
-Strength and rest for us
-Tony's family

Yes, This is Our God!
Hebrews 6:17-20
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
Praying that you, and those you come into contact with, will be "greatly encouraged!"

Praying for you in Washington,

Oh, Cora looks so sweet sleeping in those pictures and I feel so bad for all that she is going through! I have a 16 month old baby and all I know is that babies should not have to go through that! But, I do know that our Heavenly Father knows what he is doing. Too bad we don't always know why He is doing it. Still praying...Kerri

Cora looks so peaceful. We are so glad to hear the surgery seems to have given her relief. We rejoice in "baby steps" and pray Cora will take more today!

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the Peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

You are never far from our minds-

I'm so thankful that Cora's surgery went well...praise God!
I read this morning something that Oswald Chambers wrote. "The purpose of prayer is that we get ahold of God, not of the answer." I'm so glad that your family has such a strong faith and relationship with our Savior and that you have "ahold of God" and can cling to Him, until in His time, your prayers are answered.
I continue to lift Cora up, asking for complete healing. My prayers are also with Tony's famliy...for the strength and comfort that ony God can give to their hurting hearts.

I'm praying, still praying. Checking daily and praying. Thank you for giving us the specific prayer requests. This comforted us when my mother went through cancer . . .

Cancer is so limited.
It cannot cripple Love . . .
It cannot shatter Hope . . .
It cannot corrode Faith . . .
It cannot eat away Peace . . .
It cannot destroy Confidence . . .
It cannot kill Friendship . . .
It cannot shut out Memories . . .
It cannot silence Courage . . .
It cannot invade the Soul . . .
It cannot reduce Eternal Life . . .
It cannot quench the Spirit . . .
It cannot lessen the power of the Resurrection!!!

I can imagine there must be such a huge range of emotions... feeling sadly for Tony's family, and yet feeling relieved that Cora did so well. Hard to reconcile sometimes all of the things we're feeling. Keep putting one foot in front of the other, knowing that so many are lifting you all, and Cora, up in prayer. God bless you.

I have made a prayer button for Cora that is located on my sidebar of my blog (this was in request by a fellow blog friend) http://thissoutherngirlsnest.blogspot.com/

I'd love to give you the coding for it so that you can add it to your blog with the scroll box below it so that others may add it to their own blog or web page, so more people can read of your story and pray for Cora as well.

I don't mean to bother y'all with this of course I know your very busy. I just wanted to allow everyone to pray that would be willing.

God Bless.

I was visiting w/a youth pastor who was at the hospital when Tony had his surgery. He mentioned talking w/a family w/a baby having the same situation. I thought of Cora and wondered if it was her.
So thankful for her successful surgery, and we shall continue to pray for her recovery, and your stamina.
