snapshop with ashley ann {a giveaway}

Photography is such a powerful too. I love having the ability to capture the events that make up my everyday. They are cherished memories. Naturally, I started taking lots of pictures after Cora was born. Back then I remember being so concerned about everything looking perfect in my pictures. And I often didn't want to be in the pictures if I didn't look perfect too. Silly, I know. It wasn't until after Cora died that I realized how many of our everyday moments I had neglected to capture. Those were my favorite memories...the everyday mundane moments and routines. I am so thankful for the pictures we do have, but I so wish I could go back and capture those moments.

When Levi was born I was determined to capture the everyday things we did. I didn't want to worry so much about how we looked, or how clean the house was, or posing the perfect picture. I take lots of pictures now, but I still have so much to learn about my camera. I knew I needed to learn to shoot in manual, but didn't really know where to start. I finally decided to just go for it and have been shooting in manual since February. I have learned a lot from friends and by reading photography blogs, but there were still so many things I didn't understand.

Enter Ashley Ann's online SnapShop course. I have been dying to take one of Ashley's SnapShop classes ever since I met her at Megan's craft weekend. But I was never fast enough to register and could never get in!! I was SO excited to get the opportunity to take her August online SnapShop course. It was FANTASTIC! Ashley does such an incredible job of explaining photography in easy to understand language for a beginning photographer (like me!). And she includes tons of pictures and examples. I learned so much about my camera and feel much more comfortable shooting in manual now. Of course I still need lots and lots of practice! I think my favorite part of the course was Ashley's tips on how to tell a story with your photos and how to capture moments not poses. Loved it! I wish I had known all of that when Cora was here.

Registration is now open for the September online SnapShop course. SnapShop is an introduction to photography course. It is a self paced course and you will have access to the material for three weeks. All you need is a DSLR camera. You can even take this course in your pajamas!! You can find out more information about SnapShops here.

Here is the best part...Ashley is offering a spot in her September online course to one of you. Thanks so much Ashley! Here is how you can enter to win:

As I thought about capturing the precious moments with my kids I just had to share this with you...

There is a family in our little town who had to say goodbye to their 19 month old daughter, Tatum, this past Saturday. Sweet Tatum was just five days younger than Levi and she spent 10 days at the same hospital Cora was at. She fought hard for her little life after a drowning accident. My heart has been breaking for this family even though we have never met. Tatum's celebration of life service is today. I know so many of you prayed for our family and sweet Cora and I would love it if you would pray for this family today...that they would sense God's indescribable love and comfort as they celebrate their daughter's precious life this afternoon. Thank you!

I just started really enjoying photography after buying my first DSLR so I would LOVE this opportunity!

As for the question- I just love the every day things that happen... my husband playing with the dogs, the sky as the sun sets, family get togethers, golf outings, etc. When we have kids I can't wait to photograph them too!

My 4 mo old needs a mom who knows how to run a camera. If I get chosen, I will break down and spring for the DSLR.
I want to be able to catch instant moments of her milestones and tell stories with my camera (ex: rolling over with snapshots, not the video camera). Also, we need candids of our everday, such as our walk this morning. It was so nice out here in Clay Center.

I love reading your blog and looking at all your great pictures! I just got my first DSLR for Christmas last year and I have yet to learn how to use it! It still takes great pictures so I have enjoyed taking shots of my 3 kids. Because we are an adoptive family there are parts of their early life that we were not able to share with them so I make up for it now by filling picture albums full! :)

I am so very sorry to hear about the family that lost their little girl. I will pray for them today..

I've had my DSLR for awhile now and am thinking of upgrading. This class sounds amazing, I have been wanting to take classes for awhile now and can never seem to come up with the extra money.

The everyday moments I enjoy capturing are when my kids are being the most quiet, it's usually when they are sharing a sweet time together between the fighting. I love to sneak out and get shots of my son "reading" to my daughter or them just randomly embracing through out the day.

Tatum's family are in my thoughts.

I would so love to have the opportunity to learn to take better pictures. Over the years, out of frustration, I have just stopped taking pictures. My children are mostly grown (one still at home) and it makes me sad that I don't have pictures for them and for myself to remember the everyday things. The special moments are important too, but it is the ordinary days that I wish I could get back.

I liked the analogy of telling a story with your camera. I, too, get all caught up in posing or not being in a picture because I don't have makeup on. I want to have good, quality pictures to remember this time in life when I'm old and wrinkly and the pictures are all I have left.

So nice of you to do a giveaway! I took the SnapShop class in August too! If I win this spot I want to give it away to my sister-in-law who I know would LOVE LOVE it. I've been raving about it to her. Right now, the moments I'm trying to constantly capture are of my 3 kiddos playing all together, Brady, 5, Lucy, 2, and Macy 11 months. Brady goes off to KDG on September 1 full days so I'm trying to capture the sweet moments of him with his sisters before he becomes a "big boy"
Thanks for the giveaway opp. Ashley's class is AMAZING.

They are growing up too fast and I always think of the saying "The days and nights may seem so slow but the years will go so fast." Sometimes it's difficult to enjoy the hard days/long nights but if you don't, they are gone. I would love to better capture the little things each day - their (still) toothless grins, the way they smile at each other, their bare butts in the bath tub, running in the yard, the list goes on!

I love getting quick pictures of our day. one moment I wish I had captured, the day I took the younger two boys to the store and stuck the baby up front in the cart with his brother for the first time--they looked so cute together I wish I'd had a camera phone to grab a shot!

(PS, I don't know if I've every commented b/c I never have much to say but my 3rd son is just a few weeks older then your little guy and I enjoyed being pregnant "with" you and seeing our boys grow up together. Trust me, they are rather similar. :)

I would also love to learn how to use my DSLR on manual. This would be great.

Also, just want to say what an inspiration you are to me. I took your 30 day Bible reading challenge and I'm still going. What a difference it has made.
Thank you for letting God use you to bless and encourage others.

When my son turned one 6 months ago I bought my first DSLR and since I have been trying to learn how to use it in manual mode. I follow Ashley Ann as well and I have been dying to take her course. We just don't have the funds right now. Hopefully I can win a spot!

What everyday moments do you want to capture? I want to be better at taking pictures, so that when I finally have kids I will be able to take non-blurry pictures of them running around.

I would love a photography course. I just got my first "real" camera for my 8th grade graduation. I love capturing moments at my sister's softball games, while on vacation, and when with family, but my favorite pictures are always the ones I just happen to shoot. I want to learn how to really use my camera to its full potential. I hope I get chosen!!!!

My Wonderful Mom is always taking pictures and would be very deserving of this wonderful prize as she is always doing things for others. She would be very delighted and touched to receive something meaningful like this, she would never do it for herself!

I wish I was better at capturing these sweet moments with my kids! I used to love looking at my photo albums when I was little. I want to capture my 3 year old daughter and 1 1\2 year old son becoming friends, it just melts this mama's heart.

My heart just breaks for the family of that sweet little angel. I wanted to write a comment about how I wish I was better at capturing moments between my two little crazies, aged 3.5 and 1.5 yrs, or to record my little boy's enthralled expression when he sees a plane over head or my little girl's face as she plays with her farm animals and gives them all their own voices but all I can think of is Tatum's heartbroken parents and how important her photos will now always be. May God protect them and keep them :-(

I'd love to capture those napping moments before they're all gone! My oldest is 5 and still naps a few times a week, but it's always a struggle to get him to go down. I love those sleeping faces and would like to have them documented for when they outgrow them.

Tatum's momma was my very best childhood friend. Although we have gradually grown apart over the years, my heart is breaking for them and the loss of sweet Tatum. I attended Tatum's celebration of life service today, and it was beautiful. Thank you for mentioning them in your blog. They will continue to need many prayers in the days ahead.
