maine {can we please go back?}
This is where we spent our days last week. It was just as lovely as it looks.
The scenery was beautiful. Even a cute little bridge leading to a gazebo in the yard.
And there were these funny little shell faces on random trees. Loved them.
This was the back of the house. Those three big windows with the upstairs deck were part of the master bedroom. It was an awesome room and had an incredible view, but there were no blinds on the windows. That meant that around 5:30am when the sun rose it was really bright in the room. Good morning! Our sweet friends stayed in there and gave us the room on the other side of the house that stayed dark in the mornings...because they like the mornings and watching the sun rise...and we are more of the sleeping in type of people. We just took their word for it that the sunrise was beautiful!
Our friend Nathan found that long stick and he and the kids collected treasures from the ocean to tie onto it. They found buoys and a part of a lobster cages and all sorts of things. It was our vacation trophy. I think Nathan loved it as much as the kids because he sawed it in half and strapped it to the top of his van to take home and hang in his garage. His wife was really excited about that. :)
In Maine there was no wind, no bugs, and the weather was cool enough to wear sweatshirts. Very un-Kansas like. So we took advantage of it and ate several of our meals outside at this picnic table.
How often to you get to eat outside and overlook the ocean? It was awesome.
Our friends Nathan and Kim planned all the meals and brought all the food. All we had to do was show up. It was so nice and they made us some really yummy meals...and milkshakes too!
After dinner we could just let the kids down and they could run all over the yard.
Letty is three months younger than Levi. She and Levi loved climbing off and on the chairs. I preferred just lounging in them.
Once it started to get dark we spent most of our evenings inside the house. There was lots of room for the kids to run and play...and eat snacks.
The organ was a big hit too. Thankfully it didn't actually work.
Owen was pretty into his Where's Waldo book. He loved trying to find Waldo with Joel. That book used to be one of my favorites too...it brought back a lot of childhood memories.
Did I mention that the house was on a little bluff and if you went down the stairs at the edge of the yard you were on the shore of Frenchmen's Bay? I'll show you more tomorrow...

Wow - that looks like the most amazing vacation! Thanks for sharing pictures.
Oh that is BEYOND gorgeous! I expected you to take some great pictures ;) What city was this in?
Oh Jess, that looks amazing! How relaxing and what GREAT friends! So sweet to just love on you!
Hello Jess, I have followed your blog since I was asked to pray for your sweet Cora and continue to enjoy reading your posts.
My in-laws live in Connecticut and we're playing a visit to see them soon and hope to visit Maine as well. The house in your pictures, is it a rental? And, if so, would it be possible for you to share the information with me? It looks amazing and we're hoping to find something just like that!
Thanks so much!
Stacy
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing Jess.
What kind of seat is Levy using at thepicnic table? Looks really neat!
The house is beautiful, and your trip looks amazing, peaceful and so enjoyable. Glad you and your family had fun. I'm having a girls only vacation later this month, and can't wait! :)
Is that a bed and breakfast? You'll have to tell us how to get it! Mike and Debbie are leaving for Maine Saturday. We will do the gulf this year, but treasure the time on Martha's Vineyard and would love to go back up north again sometime.
Beautiful pictures! I've never been to Maine but your photos and descriptions really make me want to go!
I'm with Stacy, I'd love to know if the house is a rental. I'd love to be in Maine right now - it has been over 100 degrees in Texas for so many days now I can't even count!
How beautiful. I am glad you had a great time.
I love Maine. I lived in Boston for a few years, and some of my favorite weekends were spent in the mountains in Maine. :-)
Beautiful! We were in Boston and Maine last week :) We only spent one day in Maine (in Ogunquit), but next year I want to spend at least 2-3 days there! We love our annual Boston trips. However, Maine is so gorgeous, peaceful, and absolutely wonderful I am convinced we need to add those extra 3 days to our Boston week and make the most of the East Coast :) (we live in HOT Arizona, but we are originally from the burbs of Chicago--I miss having 4 seasons, big bodies of water, and lush GREEN landscape)
The house you guys stayed in looks perfectly Maine-ish and wonderful :)
Looks heavenly! I would love to go there sometime.
Love all your pictures, as always!!
Wow - how absolutely amazing! I'm with the rest; is this place a rental! Sounds like a great family getaway!
I love Maine; it is gorgeous there! Ahhhh, so beautiful!
Your picture are gorgeous. I am just getting into shooting manual - what camera/lens do you have? I am considering investing in a new one, so just curious :)
My dad is from Maine and we used to drive up (from GEORGIA!) every summer. I LOVE it there and these posts made me totally wanting to go back. We're ~hoping~ to plan a trip next summer to take my babies up there too :)
I second and third the request for the cottage information. I have never been to the east coast and it is one of my dream trips! That place looks perfect! Love all the pics of the kids and we have kayaks too! And I love the instagram you did!
