monday morning
Good morning. We are spending yet another day hanging out in our jammies. Levi is still sick. But at least he is sleeping through the night again. Unfortunately Joel is sick now too. I guess he felt left out! I feel like I need to open all my windows and clorox every surface in my house. But it is too cold to do that. There was a little snow on the ground this morning. Craziness. Go away sickness and snow!

On Saturday I worked all day on my closets in between taking care of sick Levi. I am almost done. All the clothes have been sorted and boxed up for either garage sale or consignment. I still have to work on Levi's closet but it shouldn't take as long. Yeah for clean closets!
This morning I clicked over to Simple Mom to find out what hot spot #2 is. I prayed as the page loaded that this week's project would have nothing to do with paper clutter. NOOOOOO!! Of course, this week's hotspot is paper clutter. This is the worst area of clutter in my home. I keep way too much paper...thinking I may need it someday...and I am not good at organizing the papers I keep. I would be embarrassed to show you the many baskets that are hiding around my house full of unorganized papers. I laughed when she said to gather all of your paper clutter in one box. I'm pretty sure it will take a dump truck to hold all of my paper clutter!
So...it may take me longer than a week, but this week I am tackling my paper clutter. If you have any great organizational tips let me know!

I'm pretty sure I will go crazy from sorting through papers so I am hoping to find time to make Levi a new shirt too. I was inspired by the one Ashley made for her son. I have never dyed fabric before, so we will see how it turns out! :)
Happy Monday!

I have a problem with paper clutter myself. Try scanning things that you think you mihgt need into folders organized by month/year. When you access something, move it to a new folder with the current month/year. Anything that has not been accessed in a year (or whatever timeline you choose) can then be deleted.
You will be addicted to dyeing everything. Boy clothes get stained so easily...now I just dye stuff and it is like a new shirt. Addiction.
I am now to your blog and you don't know me but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Thanks for being so open and sharing. Reading your updates is one of my new favorite things to do while my kiddos are nappping.
I agree on the paper clutter that is exactly how I am...but you have made me think about it and how I should probably be doing the same thing! The t-shirt idea is so cute...I think i will have to try it!
Hope you all get to feeling better!
Get well soon!
I cleaned out & organized our big closet at the beginning of the year & it is awesome. All craft stuff has a home. What a relief. I do need to work on my closet though...hmm. And, I love that Ashley shirt too. I'm making a red one this week:). Hoping for well days for you guys!!! Being sick stinks.
I am an organizing freak! So, I will give you my best advice. As far as papers. If you haven't looked at it or used it in a year, get rid of it. If it's stuff for taxes, keep a large shoe box with the tax date and put everything in it for that tax year. You can keep those stored easily and they take up a small amount of storage room. Keep a seperate container just user for manuals for everthing in your house. Keep a box (we got a pretty box at Pier One) just for your everyday things (receipts, bills that have been paid, bills to be paid, extra checks, etc. All those things you use all the time. We also keep all of our files in this box so that we can file away bills that have been paid, tax info, personal info for each of us, etc). It's all in one place and easy to keep organized. Have a mail in spot where you go through your mail everyday. Get rid of junk, and put everything else in it's "home" right away. We have a "bill basket" where we put all bills to be paid (then after they are paid we file them away). If you need more tips, let me know! I LOVE this stuff!
I have one tip for you now and one for when Levi is school aged. The first is to open all your mail everyday and immediately get rid of any junk mail/ ads you don't need/want. Second, for when Levi is in school, make sure you have a designated place to store his "to keep" school papers. Decide right away if it's a keep paper or a trash paper. Then at the end of the year you can put them in that year's back pack and label it with the grade, teacher, and year. So you and Levi will know what he did each year.
Dyeing fabric is not as hard as I thought it was. Last summer Caden and I made him a tie-dye t-shirt and it was much easier than I expected. If I can do it, I know you can do it easily! Good luck!
Hope your boys, big and little, feel better soon!
I use our "paper clutter" to print coupons on or write our grocery lists on. I try to recycle that way. Have fun organizing! ;)
hope everyone feels better soon!!

I love the shirt Ashely made for her son! Good luck with that - can't wait to see yours.
Get well soon, guys!
I can't wait to see your dyed shirts! I have been doing the bleach shirts and dye shirts found on the AshleyAnn blog...so much fun! You are going to have a blast! Be sure to check out my blog...I will be posting my shirts later this week!
Happy crafting...
I have fallen in love with Simple Mom! Thank you for sharing!
Well done on clearing out your closet. Mine is so full I can barely fit anything else into it and I don't ever wear anything out of there!!! Why is it so hard to part with stuff...?! I WILL do it this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration:-)
-Hi, Jess! Now you're talking about the stuff I LOVE to do-ORGANIZATION (when I have time to think about it and do it, that is)! Nate and I organized a lot of our paper stuff 5 or so years ago and developed a system that has really worked for us since that time. I started typing out "our system" for you, but it got rather long and sort of confusing to read. If you're interested, just give a call and I'd be glad to share.
One thing I have started to do for the kids is keeping a plastic bin for each child that fits nicely under their beds for those papers and things you want to keep and look back on later. Every so often I'll take the time and go through the bins to determine whether they would want to see it and have it or even care about it when they are our age.
Have fun organizing! Do it now while you still have a little bit of time or while you can still make a little bit of time for it! :-)
Always praying for you guys,
Kim
We are terrible with paper clutter, it was stuffed in drawers, cupboards, cardboard boxes, filing boxes etc
Then i had enough, gathered it all up, made two piles, shred and file.
then we sat down and sorted through it all, filed important stuff like bills or mortgage paperwork. and the 'shred' pile was so huge it broke the shredder! haha
So it all got burnt instead.
Now we have One box with hanging files in for all important paperwork and a box file.
I box file all post as it comes in, then once a week or month i go through file the important bits and chuck the rest.
So simple now .. ahhhh :O)
