vacation {winter park & grand lake}

Levi was a trooper on this trip.
We spent LOTS of time in the car.
He never complained until the last hour of the car ride home.
He is a pretty flexible little guy.

We left Colorado Springs and headed up
to my grandparent's cabin in the mountains.
We even talked Michael and Laura into coming with us for a few days.

On our way we had to stop at our favorite pizza place in Winter Park...
Hernandos.
It is so yummy.
Can you tell we like to eat?

The crust is hallow around the edges.
When you get to the end of your pizza
you are supposed to fill the crust with honey.
Have you ever eaten pizza that way?
It is kind of like having dessert at the end.
I love it.
Joel loves the pizza but doesn't care for the honey so much.

The next day we went into Grand Lake to eat lunch and walk around.

We had planned on doing a little hiking too,
but it looked like it was about to rain.
We decided that being stuck on a trail in the rain
with three small children didn't sound like too much fun.
We made it to the car right before it started pouring.

We spent the afternoon hanging out at the cabin.
I didn't take a picture of the cabin, but it is beautiful.
The boys liked hanging out on the porch with Grandpa.

Levi tried to keep up with Hunter in his walker.
He is getting really fast.

One thing I love about Colorado is the weather.
You can be outside all the time.
A hot day in Colorado still feels so much nicer than a hot day in Kansas.
And the best part...
No humidity.
No wind.
No bugs.

There were hummingbirds flying all around us.

And wildflowers everywhere.
These daisies will always remind me of Cora.
We put one behind her ear when we were at the cabin two years ago.
Sweet, sweet memories.

We just went up to Grand Lake after the 4th of July! It was so beautiful, and we actually had a little bit of sunshine & rain. Perfect getaway.

I'm so glad you are documenting the trip so wonderfully. That means I don't have to...right? :) Loving all your pics - believe it or not I might have a CD headed to you in a few short days. Believe it? Ya, me either...but I am working on it! As for those daisies...I can see that big smile on Cora's face...with that white daisy in her hair...being held by her daddy. That picture is burned into my mind forever. Love and hugs.

Oh yes...honey on pizza! The ONLY way to eat it Colorado style! I suggest you guys try Beaujo's Pizza in Idaho Springs the next time you are driving to Winter Park! It is AWSOME pizza and you order your toppings by the pound! That is the first time I had honey on my pizza! I go back to Nebraska to visit family and they look at me quite strangly when I ask for honey at a pizza place! LOVE THE BABY ROLLS on that man! TOO CUTE!

I definitely agree about BeauJos...it's AMAZING!
We LOVE Winter Park and Grand Lake! One of my BFFs lives in Granby and we ski WP and Mary Janr all time so we are up there a lot!
Glad you had a great time! Colorado is so beautiful in the summer.
I'm sure Cora was enjoying the wildflowers with you.

I second the comment to try BeauJo's - one of my favorite places to eat! I'd never had honey on my pizza before I ate there, and I thought it was marvelous. And I love Colorado in general for all the reasons you do: Florida's sticky hot summers makes me ache (literally!) for the beauty of Colorado.

Jess, Levi is just precious. I love to read about your family. We absolutely love Colorado---spent a couple of weeks there last fall. Our friends have a condo in Dillon so that was our home base but we traveled all over. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

I just LOVED reading this post! Too funny...because I just finished posting Day 2 of our trip to Grand Lake! How crazy that we were probably there at the same time :)

We too stopped at the SAME pizza place in Winter Park on our way to Grand Lake! AND that green bench in front of the cute little Village shop---as a photographer, I so wanted to load that up and take it home!!

Hope you had as great of a time as we did. You're so right-A hot day there is so much nicer than in KS. The no humidity and no bugs makes all the difference :) --I went to high school with Amanda Balzer, by the way!

Winter Park and Grand Lake are awesome places to visit! Hernandos is the best pizza place and I have done many rehearsal dinners there. Honey on pizza crust is amazing, the only way to eat it. I live in Colorado Springs and I had no idea you visited here. Next time you are here, I would love to meet you and chat!!

Sounds like a wonderful vacation. I loved the pics.

I am so sorry you had to say good-bye to your daughter, Cora. I love that we will see our children again some day but the wait is difficult.

Thank you for praying for my daughter, Abby.

Hernando's is one of our favorite places too, we sometimes make the day trip up to WP just to eat there! So glad that you got the chance to come out and enjoy our beautiful state!

Keep those pictures of your chubby monkey coming, I adore seeing them!
