how is it thursday already?
It seems like every time we go somewhere, it takes me so long to get back into the swing of things here at home. Today I just downloaded our pictures from the Fourth. And I realized it is Thursday ALREADY. Crazy how fast this week is going.
This is the first time in four years (I think) that we haven't hosted a party at our house for the Fourth. Joel's cousins had invited us to come see them over the Fourth, so we decided to change it up a little this year. It was fun to be able to spend time with them.
The original plan was to hang out by the pool all day. Instead it rained most of the afternoon and we just hung out inside and talked. By the time evening rolled around the skies cleared and we spent the rest of the evening outside. The weather was beautiful. Joel's cousins have an awesome backyard with a pool...
and these fantastic lounge chairs. It was very relaxing.
When the sun went down we were entertained by an awesome fireworks show. We didn't even have to go anywhere. And Levi slept through the whole thing.
Joel's brother James came along with us. He is home from China for a few months. It is great to have him around! I don't know how to explain this picture...it must be a cousin thing.
Thanks Sands and Heusers for inviting us. We loved our time together. Come to Kansas soon!

Today is my little brothers birthday (left). He is 19..which means he is almost 20. (I know, I'm a genius.) It is weird for your baby brother to be almost 20. And the worst part is...that means I am almost 30. Yikes! Thank goodness my hubby gets to reach that milestone before me. Levi and I got to have breakfast with my brother and his girlfriend this morning. My other crazy brother (right) came by too. Levi was loving the attention.
Happy birthday Owen!

And right now I am attempting to make a chocolate peanut butter pie to take to small group tonight. I have never made it before (that was probably my first mistake). My crust came out of the oven kinda crumbly still. I am wondering if I should have added a little extra butter. But I followed the recipe EXACTLY and I don't have that cooking instinct that alerts you when the recipe isn't working and tells you exactly what to do to fix it. I wish I had that. I am pretty sure my pie won't look as good as the picture. I might not even have enough time for the pie to set up before we have to leave. It is taking longer than I thought. Obviously I didn't plan very well. So, I am sitting here thinking about what my plan B should be if my pie making turns into a disaster. This is why I don't make pies.
Hope you all are having a good week!

My disaster was a chocolate Guinness cheesecake with chocolate graham crust for St. Patrick's Day. My brother and I realized no one would eat it if presented as-is. So we stirred it all together in a bowl (crust fragments and all), served it in scoops, and renamed it Guiness chocolate cheesecake mousse. It was so tasty that we got asked for the recipe. So I hope you can salvage yours somehow...and if not, just explain, because everyone's "been there" with an unexpected cooking mishap.
you can serve it in scoops into the small graham cracker pie crusts that you pie in the "pie ingredents" isle at walmart. You get like 6 in a packet. Then add a cuople slices of fresh strawberries on top and/or whip cream. *tada!*
I bet your pie will taste yummy no matter how it looks :) But, you could bring it to Monday night Bible Study if you perfect it :) Glad to hear you guys had a good fourth of July, and I have to say that so far, my 30s have been the best yet!!!! So, it's O.K. to hit that milestone.
I just want to squeeze Mr. Levi's thighs! Oh how sweet!
It looks like you had a fantastic holiday! Not to mention how great it is that you got to enjoy those fireworks without loading up the car and driving for them. Well, sort of, I suppose. :)
Sorry to hear about the pie. :(
Who cares what it looks like though. It reall is all about the taste. Right?! Right.
With love and prayers,
XO*tricia
All I can say is...Go Macs!:)
we saw Joel's parents at a gas station in concordia on our way back from NE :o) Glad you guys had a great time!!
these are awesome 4th of July pictures! I hope your brother has a wonderful 19th birthday celebration!
I have a (fool proof) recipe for a VERY TASTY Peanut Butter Pie. It's actually called...
Nutter Butter Pie
1 block of cream cheese
1 c sugar
1 c peanut butter
1 small tub of whipped topping
1 graham cracker crust
1 pkg Nutter Butters (Bite Size is best)
Mix top 4 ingredients together; place in crust then line outer edge w/ Nutter Butters. Place in fridge to cool. You could probably switch out the graham cracker crust for a chocolate crust.
go macs. :-)
You know what, the best thing about pie, is that no matter how it turns out, it still tastes good :-)
Plan B is always available, stop by the bakery and buy one! :)
I LOVE Levi's chunky legs ... I could eat him up :D
I'm happy to see your smiley face surrounded by family! <3
What kind of camera do you have? You always post the most beautiful pictures!

my brother turned 20 last month so i totally get what you're saying!!
Your husband looks very comfortable with 2 little ones on his lap....do I foresee another in the near future?
Did I just say that?
It looks like you had a fun 4th of July! Really cute pictures!
I don't usually comment but just wanted to b/c your little Levi is the cutest little boy ever! I love his chubby little legs and sweet little smile. I also have a little brother that turned 20 this year (in Jan) which means I'm 30 this year...this Sunday actually! My hubby turned 30 in April and I am counting down my last days in my 20's. :( Anyways, I have a fantastic and foolproof recipe for a sour cream apple pie that is delish as well as a coconut cake that my SIL made for us tonight that is amazing! Sorry your pie didn't turn out. I don't have that natural cooking instinct either. :)
I never comment but OH! His chubber wubber legs! Delishious!
Hey!!! There's my sweet, sweet friend Andi! So fun seeing a face that I know and love on your blog! (She was a dear friend of mine at University back in the day.) What a wonderful family you are blessed with!
My 30th birthday was one of my best yet and I have loved my 30s so far (and I'm four years into them!) It will be great!
The way I felt about it was that so far in life (beginning jr. high, beginning high school, starting college, the beginnings of your 20s when you're out of college looking for a job, etc.) you keep starting over but you're always back at the bottom of the totem pole. When I turned 30 I felt like I didn't have to "start over" but got to take everything I'd learned so far into my 30s in a different way than in any of those other transitions. It felt really cool.
